Well, I'm still in Oregon and counting the days to head back to Vietnam!!! I really miss my home there even though I know that its raining and my roof leaks and the river has flooded, its still home for me!!!

My 2 weeks with Nancy Crow was wild! I had a great and exhausting time I will load some photos when I get back.

I did get some great news!!! My green quilt with all the beads has been accepted into the SAQA Points Of View show!!!!! Very exciting for me!

Ok more when I get home.

I seem to be doing a little series, I love this. I love most of the things I make.... thats good. It is 40 x 54, I find I like working this size it gives me room to move around in. Now I just have to get it quilted.......???

I was at the market the other day and I saw these rambutans ( not spelled right) and I loved the colors so I checked out my stash and put this together.
I like it much better in person but still feel something isn't right about it, too busy? No real focal point? Maybe I can do some interesting quilting....

The start of something new I like this.
I thought I needed to change size.... hummmmm
I kept going but was not happy and threw it away 3 times....
Then I added the big flame.... it made me cry I hated it so much

This is the final out come, I am very happy with it it and will have Hong do some interesting hand quilting to it.

The things I have learned while working on this is to stop second guessing my self, this was my vision when I started this but I thought I needed to make it more interesting by changing size and direction, all that did was make the piece look forced and make me want to throw it away. I also changed the name, it was Nights Fire but people got confused because the "flames" were going the wrong direction so now I'm naming it African Print.

I have had a few people say that this piece would look better upside down.... what do you think? I could go either way....

Well this is finished to the point where it will go to the hand quilter!!! I am very happy with this. Its 29x42" I croped the photo but Im pretty sure that it will finish far from square, I like that natural curves of the edges of the quilts I make, my work is not perfect and thats the way I like it!

I am thinking of doing another quilt in the same technique but way different colors, will see what happens, Ill keep you posted!

This is what I have been doing, dyeing lots of fun colors, I have even tried a few stripes.... I like them but I doubt I would ever use them in one of my quilts. I would make more but what to do with them?

I am cleaning my studio to clear my head, I am waiting for my next quilt to make its way in there. What to do with all this? I cant bear to throw it away, its all my hand dye and its so pretty! I guess Ill put it in a bag and save it for later.

I am feeling very frustrated about not being able to post any new quilts Ive been working on, I am entering 5 quilts in 3 different shows and they are pretty strict about not having them seen anywhere!

I am now dying yards and yards of fabric to get my inventory back up, so far I have dyed 80 yds in the last week, Ill add pix of those. I just shipped 300 yds to Nancy Crows barn for 2 classes in the fall, it takes for ever to ship things from here!

I am going to get my body of work beefed up also as I am hoping to have a show next year! So I will post those photos.

Tuesday, 3 June 2008

Well here is a part of my big quilt that I want to enter in a show. I am very happy with the way the edges turned out! It was a pain but its done! I did the facing method where you cover the whole front sew it and cut out the inside, turn it and stitch!

I am working on another piece for a SAQA show, Ill show you a part of it later.

I just got my 500 meters of cotton from testfabrics!!!! That was a chore in its self with the shipping and customs.... but its here! I was down to my last 50 mts. I hope that I can find somewhere here that makes 100% cotton, but its not easy! Maybe Ill have to go back to India!
I have been starting to dye for my 2 weeks with Nancy Crow in Sept. I can see what colors I like to dye.... I need to round out my collection! I will see hoe much it costs to ship it other wise Ill have to pay for over weight luggage!!!

This is pretty much how we've been feeling of late! Its 99 degrees with 98 humidity! It does cool down to a lovely 80 at night!?

Its tough to work in my studio, I have no air con and I get the morning sun in there. I find myself getting up earlier and earlier so I can get some work done!

I have had to delete a few photos from my blog because they are of quilts I would like to enter in a couple of shows.
I got an email from one show that said if they google my name and the name of the quilt and it comes up then it will be disqualified!!!! So I guess I wont be posting some of my new works.... hummm, that's kind of a drag, I like sharing and getting every ones in put!
